organizing my scrap space, that is. I love it and hate it at the same time. I have 3 new cards done, but I need to take some pictures...will post soon. I got side tracked with AI...love that show!!
To answer some questions that I have received: I have been asked quite a few times about where I get my fun facts...I just do a random internet search, that's it :)
Abbie asked: "Hey Kim, I have a question/opinion that I've been wrestling with for a long time. In scrapbooking, it does not matter what the back side of the layout looks like (brads, eyelets, tape, stitching, etc.) but with cards, it obviously does matter. I happened to look at some of my first cards I EVER made and I was almost embarrassed! How funny - I've learned a lot, that's for sure. But I now find myself limiting what techniques I use or how I use them on cards so that they look ok on the inside. I love using my sewing machine but do it so rarely bc I don't know what is "acceptable". What is your take? And also, what do you usually do to the inside for a greeting? I've been doing a lot of stamped phrases and computer-written greetings. Is this "standard"? What do y ou do? Thanks for your insight!"
my answer to this question is: As far as cards go, I think it's totally fine for the machine stitching to be seen on the inside, But, if you want to make a "clean" card, make the front of the card and adhere it to a card base after, KWIM? Sometimes I only make the front of a card and if I actually use it or if it gets picked up for publication, I add it to a card base that coordinates with the front. I don't add sentiments to the inside, but that's just me. I hand write the inside of my cards. I think that computer generated and stamped greetings on the inside of the card are nice, but I think you should always hand sign it. I don't out a "handmade by" stamp on the back, maybe I should, but I really don't think about it. Don't limit the techniques you use, play and have fun. Whoever receives a hand made card will most likely be touched, so no worries. :)
Michelle asked: "do you hand write your own journaling on your scrap page? I love your writing! Or have you created it into a font that can be ordered somewhere? Or do you have an alph stamp set??"
My answer to this question is: I do hand write my journaling. Sometimes I do it on the computer though. I have designed 16 fonts for Creating Keepsakes and they are found at Scrap N Fonts. I also designed a stamp set called Quirky Alphabet for Cornish Heritage Farms. I use my hand writing on all of my stamp sets (except for the silhouette blooms sets and in this case, I chose the font) more alphabet stamps to come *wink*
here is a card that you can see in the winter issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today
I used Bo Bunny and Jenni Bowlin papers, My Mind's Eye butterfly rub-on and die cut sentiment. Around The Block colored pencils
*Tip use colored pencils to add distress rather than ink. Start dark on the end and press lighter as you color inward.
