think hot!

I am sure that I am not the only one that's over winter...so here's a cheerful summery card that I hope warms you up.

Surfsup

Fancy Pants patterned paper, Prism and Bazzill card stock, Sakura pen, Creative Impressions Brad.  The crab is from my Summer Fun stamp set.  I used Tsukineko Ink

*Tip tear paper to represent sand...you can also do this for waves or hills too*

*FF Paris Hilton has been bitten by a kinkajou* (just snickering over here...all by myself)

The summer call from Scrapbook & Cards Today went out today.  I thought I'd share that information here with you...hope you submit!

We would love to see layouts with the following themes:

so...

it looks like I should get a tutorial together on how to add images behind paper...sounds confusing the way I put it, so sorry...I know, but it's really easy.  I will get to that soon, I hope.  Sorry that I left a vague tip, that's what I get for rushing a post :)

So, for an AI review...David Archuleta was amazing...I am sure that I am not the only one who thought that.  My second choice for the night was David Hernandez...wow!  My bottom 2 were Danny Noreiga and Jason Yeager (this guy is too cheesy for me)...I just don't think they "cut it".  The 2 other weakest ones, I think anyways is Robbie Carrico and Luke Menard (who looks a lot like Orlando Bloom IMHO) I like them both just fine but they didn't "do anything special for me".  The other 5 just fill in the center.  Michael Johns is nummy...and I am sure he will go far because of his "appeal".  I am interested in hearing Jason Castro sing without his guitar.  Looking forward to hearing the girls sing tonight.

and to asnwer some questions about tags and what I do with them...well, sometimes I make them into cards or add them on top of card bases and sometimes I add them to gift bags.  I honestly don't make a lot of them, so they really aren't hanging around here.  If you have a lot of them...maybe you could put them in a nice tin and give them as a gift.  (and then they can figure out what to do with them) LOL :)

I made a new card this morning, but I haven't photographed it yet, so here's an "older" project that I thought I'd share (you will probably need to widen the screen to see the whole thing)

Frame

This is a frame that I covered with card stock.  The large flowers are my design.  The rub-on accents are Fancy Pants.  Creative Imaginations frame

*Tip make a scalloped frame by drawing a square (or desired rectangle) on the back of your paper and trace a piece of scalloped card stock or template around it.  You may need to work with the corners if they don't match up perfectly*

*Tip 2 use a trimmer for straight lines in the center of the frame...cut close to the corners and use scissors to meet at the corners*

*FF The total combined weight of the world's ant population is heavier than the weight of the human population* (k, now that give me the jeebies!)

want to sneak...

a blog post in before AI comes on tonight...can't wait!!

Snowmantag

Thought I'd post a tag today.  It was published in a Paper Crafts pub.  I used My Mind's Eye and Scenic Route paper, (I think the base tag is Fancy Pants, but I can't remember) Beaux Regards ribbon, Clearsnap ink and a Sakura pen.  The snowman is my design.

*Tip cut patterned paper and tuck something behind...cut where you wouldn't see it and work from there using scissors or an exacto knife*

*FF the first known marketer of the flushing toilet was Thomas Crapper* (LOL...nuff said)

have a nice night!

February 25, 2008

thank you

for the healthy vibes...I think they worked...I feel just fine today :)

I completed 7 cards today and I think I am going to make a layout or 2 tonight after I watch some shows with my kids.  I have high hopes any ways LOL

Birthdaywishes

This card uses My Mind's Eye paper, MAMBI rhinestones and my Silhouette Blooms 2 stamp set

*Tip use twine for a candle wick*

*FF In Oklahoma...Tissues are not to be found in the back of one's car* (obviously a law made by ones who don't have kids...or colds...sheesh!)

February 24, 2008

Hello friends

quicky post today :)

I am trying my hardest to NOT get sick!  I have been tired for days but I am determined to stay sick free!  Please send healthy vibes my way...I'd love that!  Not sure how many new cards I will be able to post this week due to the assignments that I currently have, so please bare with me.

Outforpubsignoct07_2

This card used the new Kid Collection by American Crafts (delicious stuff I tell ya) I used my Welcome Hugs stamp set along with some Maya Road chipboard (tree and trunk) I also used a new scalloped punch by Fiskars (I don't have one :( I borrowed Bek's when she was here...very cool tool)

*Tip trace chipboard shapes onto the back of your paper and cut it out...it doesn't need to be perfect, adding paper to chipboard adds nice dimension*

*FF In Zion, Illinois, it is illegal for anyone to give cats, dogs, or other domesticated animals a lighted cigar* (ha!  what about lit cigarettes, you genius law makers?)

checking in quickly

My RAK list is growing, thank you for visiting my blog!  (I have no problem mailing to Canada, at all...some of my closest friends live there) Just an FYI...I have been scrapbooking for almost 9 years and have been on a few DT's, so that's why I have so much schtuff. I am excited to hear that some of you are just starting out.  Scrapbooking is a huge part of my life and I am thrilled that you all share this wonderful passion/obsession with me.

These are the very talented ladies who will be cropping with me tonight.  Becky, Nicole, Teresa and Brenda.  I also enjoy spending time with 2 more crop groups that are close by.  This is one HUGE benefit of living in UT.  I am surrounded by amazing people who "get" me.

Whatyoudotoday

I used Tim Holtz stamps (yummm) and some Basic Grey papers, Beaux Regards ribbon and Imaginisce brads.  Clearsnap ink

*Tip cat's eye inks work great with inking hard to reach edges*

*Tip 2 trace a scalloped edge paper to make custom decoratuve edges*

*FF In WV, A person may be jailed for up to six months for making fun of someone who does not accept a challenge* (let me get this straight, you can challenge someone...whatever THAT means, but you're not allowed to laugh at them...huh?  If I lived there, I would have to go around doing that just to see if anything happens)

Have a great weekend!  Thanks for stopping by :)

look what I found

LOTS of random ribbons and Prima flowers (I used to be on the DT a while ago, and they were VERY generous to us) AND I want to give it all away!

(2 FULL boxes with 2 views)

Flowers

Flowers_2

this ribbon box is even deeper and wider than the flower boxes!

Ribbon

I want to randomly send bags of these ribbons and flowers throughout this year to my friends.  If you would like some and don't care how old it is or who made it, please send me an e-mail (link is under my photo to the left)with your address.  I will keep it on file and pick and choose people from my master list.  So, there's a great chance that you will be sent a RAK from me this year.

Hugstree

This card used Basic Grey Papers along with my Scripty Words stamp set.  I also used a stamp set designed by Leslie Langdon (very talented lady)  It's called Primitive Beginnings and I think it's a super fun set!  I also used a hounds tooth backgrounder and a bird from my Pretty Birds stamp set, Clearsnap ink

*Tip add backgrounder stamps on top of patterned paper...use the same color and make it look like it was intended to be there*

*FF 102 years ago, the average US wage was...get ready for it...22 CENTS PER HOUR!* (gasp...how much was a house a buck?)

thanks for vising me today. I may not post tomorrow...I will be getting ready for my friends to come crop with me tomorrow night.  :)

February 20, 2008

I am at it again

organizing my scrap space, that is.  I love it and hate it at the same time.  I have 3 new cards done, but I need to take some pictures...will post soon.  I got side tracked with AI...love that show!!

To answer some questions that I have received: I have been asked quite a few times about where I get my fun facts...I just do a random internet search, that's it :)

Abbie asked: "Hey Kim, I have a question/opinion that I've been wrestling with for a long time. In scrapbooking, it does not matter what the back side of the layout looks like (brads, eyelets, tape, stitching, etc.) but with cards, it obviously does matter. I happened to look at some of my first cards I EVER made and I was almost embarrassed! How funny - I've learned a lot, that's for sure. But I now find myself limiting what techniques I use or how I use them on cards so that they look ok on the inside. I love using my sewing machine but do it so rarely bc I don't know what is "acceptable". What is your take? And also, what do you usually do to the inside for a greeting? I've been doing a lot of stamped phrases and computer-written greetings. Is this "standard"? What do y ou do? Thanks for your insight!"

my answer to this question is: As far as cards go, I think it's totally fine for the machine stitching to be seen on the inside,  But, if you want to make a "clean" card, make the front of the card and adhere it to a card base after, KWIM?  Sometimes I only make the front of a card and if I actually use it or if it gets picked up for publication, I add it to a card base that coordinates with the front.  I don't add sentiments to the inside, but that's just me.  I hand write the inside of my cards.  I think that computer generated and stamped greetings on the inside of the card are nice, but I think you should always hand sign it.  I don't out a "handmade by" stamp on the back, maybe I should, but I really don't think about it.  Don't limit the techniques you use, play and have fun.  Whoever receives a hand made card will most likely be touched, so no worries.  :)

Michelle asked: "do you hand write your own journaling on your scrap page? I love your writing! Or have you created it into a font that can be ordered somewhere? Or do you have an alph stamp set??"

My answer to this question is: I do hand write my journaling.  Sometimes I do it on the computer though.  I have designed 16 fonts for Creating Keepsakes and they are found at Scrap N Fonts.  I also designed a stamp set called Quirky Alphabet for Cornish Heritage Farms. I use my hand writing on all of my stamp sets (except for the silhouette blooms sets and in this case, I chose the font) more alphabet stamps to come *wink*

here is a card that you can see in the winter issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today

Darlingcardsct

I used Bo Bunny and Jenni Bowlin papers, My Mind's Eye butterfly rub-on and die cut sentiment.  Around The Block colored pencils

*Tip use colored pencils to add distress rather than ink.  Start dark on the end and press lighter as you color inward.

*FF In Arizona...When being attacked by a criminal or burglar, you may only protect yourself with the same weapon that the other person posseses* (so some slick king fu action against a loaded gun wouldn't hold up in a court of law?)

February 19, 2008

:O)

for a minute there, I thought I was coming down with something since I have been so tired lately, but I feel pretty good today.  Who has time to be sick...ack!!

I am sure that by now you have read lots of amazing CHA reviews.  I honestly can't think of anything to add at this time.  Just that it was a pleasure meeting new people and seeing dear friends.  If you have not attended a CHA trade show before, you should consider it...it's seriously an awesome experience.

Lifetime Moments had pictures of that (un-mounted stamp) storage system that I was talking about...

Seeez7

Seeez2_2

Here is a Fancy Pants layout that I made for their booth:

Explorelo

I made this card this morning:

Smiledb

these papers are a new winter CHA release from Daisy Buckets.  Love their papers.  The flower is a new Maya Road accent...I used Navy Blue Stazon ink and a large polka dot backgrounder to add a pattern to it.  Making Memories brad, Autumn Leaves chipboard (flower center) "smile" is from my Scripty Words stamp set.  The photo corners are by 3L Scrapbook Adhesives

*Tip ink onto a plastic embellishment and before the ink dries, wipe off some of the ink with a baby wipe...this gives it a distressed look*

*Tip 2 make a frame with machine stitching*

*FF In Lang, Kansas...it is illegal to ride a mule down Main Street in August, unless the animal is wearing a straw hat* (come on...really, maybe they can be more specific)

have a GREAT day!

February 18, 2008

hey there :)

Hope you are all doing well.  I was busy yesterday with product developement...I have LOTS of new ideas and I can't wait to get them moving.  But, it sort of tired me out last night, so I crashed way too early, so I missed posting yesterday, sorry :)

Thankfulforyou

This card uses new Teresa Collins journal papers (grid, fleur de lis lined paper and "thankful for") along with some new Making Memories (blue) paper and stickers.  Prima brad and Glitz bling

*Tip add a simple pop of color by stitching with embroidery floss*

*FF When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered which is the freshest, so you "squeeze" for freshness or softness Did you know th at bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color twist tie. They are:
Monday = Blue, Tuesday = Green, Thursday = Red Friday = White and Saturday = Yellow. *yellow*
So if today was Thursday, you would want red twist tie; not white which is Fridays (almost a week old)! The colors go alphabetically by color Blue - Green - Red - White - yyellow , Monday through Sat urday. Very easy to remember. I thought this was interesting. I looked in the grocery store and the bread wrappers DO have different twist ties, and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors. You learn something new everyday! Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping.*

I'll be more chatty tomorrow, promise :)  Hope you have a nice week
